Justine "Judy" Bierce
Justine "Judy" Bierce passed away Thursday evening March 16. This 93-year-old great-grandmother spent most of those years as a resident of Moses Lake. She was involved with many, many clubs and organizations. Golf, bridge, nursing, driving and traveling, Elks, Sunrise Kiwanis, Daughters of the American Revolution, Eastern Star, United Methodist Church, voter elections for Mae Valley and Grant County Fair volunteer were just some of the things she loved.
In her 60s she retired as Head of Medical Records from Samaritan Hospital. In her 70s she began traveling around the United States, joined a gym to lift weights, played bridge and chauffeured her friends around. In her 80s she had a hip replacement, and began work as a volunteer at Red Rock Elementary School in Royal City. She developed dementia and had been living at Summerwood Alzheimer's Facility for the last three years.
She was the last of her family to survive and was preceded in death by her husband, Ward Bierce, in 1988. Her only daughter, Peggy Harless (Tom) of Moses Lake, survives her.
Her nephews are Dr. Terry Brewick and Rick Morales of Denver, Jed and Fred Lesko (Joan) both of Pennsylvania and David Lesko (Fay) of Texas.
Grandchildren are Michael Curry (Nancy) of Orondo, Lisa Zeilenga (Jack) of Moses Lake, and Debra Gilbreth (Chris) of College Place. Step-grandchildren are David Harless of Moses Lake, Debi Westrope (Ken) of Basin City and Peggy Taulango of Wenatchee. She also welcomed three exchange students into her life as grandchildren: Marie Lodrup (Jon Ove) of Norway, Verna Dapic of Yugoslavia and Xue Yan Jin of China.
Great grandchildren are: Jessicah and Christa Curry; Jayce (Katie) and Justin Westrope; Sean, Rachel and Anna Gilbreth; Taylor, Tyler and Cory Harless; Brandon, Willie and Melaea Taulango; and finally, Jacob and Morgan Zeilenga. Judy was loved by all who knew her and will be missed greatly.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at Kayser's Chapel of Memories with Pastor Steve Rice officiating.
