Longtime collector back on track with business

MOSES LAKE — It's amazing the difference a little bit of distance can make.

About a month ago, Kim Fuller said, his business, Lake Die-cast, was close to closing. Again.

"Since I moved into this part of the building, it's 10 times better than it was down the hall," Fuller said, pointing to the door which opens onto Alder Street from his present location at 124 E. Third Ave., Suite 210 as making all the difference. "I was probably about a month away from going home down there."

This is actually the third storefront from which Fuller has operated the business.

Originally hailing from California, Fuller first operated his business in town about six years, closing down about four years ago and selling the merchandise out of his home in Moses Lake.

"People have been buying stuff from me ever since I closed the other store, and they've been asking me to open another one," he said.

About three months ago, Fuller re-opened elsewhere in the Desert Plaza building, and made the move down the hall to the present Lake Die-cast location about a month ago.

Fuller said he has been a fan of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, or NASCAR, for about 10 to 15 years, mostly due to the cars. Store offerings include die-cast products and apparel for both NASCAR and the National Hot Rod Association, as well as Hot Wheels.

"I collected for a long time and it kind of overwhelmed me," Fuller said. He figured he might be able to find other collectors in the area, which has turned out to be the case.

Asked if there is much demand in the area, Fuller says his first store picked up customers gradually, enough to keep him going while he was at home.

"I think it's going to be OK," Fuller said, adding his business would be helped even more if there were a track in the area, but so far as he knows, he's one of only four authorized action dealers in the state.

Lake Die-cast is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (509) 766-1563.
