Glenn W. Askwig
Glenn W. Askwig, 87, passed away March 10, 2006, after suffering a heart attack and resulting complications on Feb. 17, 2006.
Glenn was born on Nov. 6, 1918, in Bancroft, Neb., but grew up in Billings, Mont. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and after graduating from Officer Candidate School, he married the love of his life, Virgie Gilliland, on Nov. 6, 1942, in Reno, Nev. Glenn was preparing to deploy to the Pacific to fly B-29s against Japan when the war ended in August of 1945. He remained in the Air Force for 14 years and he, Virgie, and their four children (Glenn, Linda, Sally and Tomi Sue) eventually settled in Moses Lake, where the family happily resided for many years.
Glenn and Virgie owned and operated Auzy's Spudnut Shop in Moses Lake until Glenn entered the insurance business in 1964. Glenn and Virgie moved to Billings in 1980, where they resided until 1991 when they moved to Spokane. Glenn was working full-time at National Car Rental in Spokane up until his death.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Myrtle Askwig; brother, Howard Askwig; and sister, Sally Isakson. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virgie; brother, Bill Askwig; and sister, Ruth Wiley; son, Glenn W. Askwig, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Roswell, N.M.; daughter, Linda and her husband, Dick Weber of Joplin, Mo.; daughter, Sally and her husband, Tony Grabicki of Spokane; daughter, Tomi Sue and her husband, Fred Morford of Spokane; grandchildren: Glenn W. Askwig, III, Anthony and Shelby Grabicki, Andrea and Kyle Morford, Kasey Williamson, Eric and Mark Weber; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 North Government Way, Spokane, WA 99224. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
