Herman "Hermie" William Ohland
Herman "Hermie" William Ohland, 91, long time Moses Lake resident, and former resident of Havre, Mont. and Ritzville passed away Wednesday, March 8 at Samaritan Hospital.
Hermie was born May 11, 1914 in Great Falls, Mont. to the late Grace and Henry Ohland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; his brother Robert Ohland; sister Henrietta Swant and grandson Scott Owen.
He is survived by his daughter and family Janet, Dean, Kevin and Tina Owen; his son and family Bill and Sherry Ohland, Tana Boole, Curt and Dusti Ohland; sister Virginia Horst; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Hermie graduated from Havre High School in Havre, Mont., in 1932 and married his high school sweatheart, Martha Yates, in 1935, they then moved to Walla Walla. In 1941, they relocated to Ritzville and settled in Moses Lake in 1953.
Hermie and Martha opened The Town Shop in 1959. They owned and operated the woman's boutique until 1974.
He was a loving husband, devoted father and doting grandfather and great-grandfather, a charter member of Moses Lake Golf and Country Club, former active member of the Moses Lake Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and a Shriner with the El Katif Temple.
Hermie was well-known around town (not only the sight of him driving his bright orange 1971 Duster) but, most importantly, for his friendliness, willingness to help out in anyway he could and his genuine friendship to a great majority of Moses Lake folks. He was a true "Jack-Of-All-Trades." He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Private family services will be held at Kayser's Chapel of Memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of your choice.
