'There is still a great need'
MOSES LAKE— Moses Lake resident Carole Prior found a way to help Hurricane Katrina victims by exploring the Internet.
"I found two Web sites begging for large-size clothing and kitchen appliances," explained Prior. Even though the first phase of the hurricane is over, there is still a great need. People are having to start over their lives and are in need of daily commodities. This includes large-sized and small-sized clothing, kitchen appliances, sheets, towels and school supplies.
Prior found a Web site that was asking for larger-sized clothing and called the phone number. They explained to Prior that the need for such clothing is still present. Prior then went through all of her clothing she no longer wears.
"I didn't realize I had so many work clothes that I could give away, so that was a small blessing."
Prior has placed all of her clothing into three boxes to send to the victims, but has a problem — she doesn't have any way to send the boxes.
"I called everywhere, to see if they were sending items to the Katrina area, but everyone is saying that they already sent stuff at the beginning. I guess people don't understand that is an ongoing ordeal."
Prior is searching for a group or organization to help send her boxes onto the victims. "I just want them (the victims) to know that we are still thinking about them."
