QUINCY — A two-vehicle head-on collision left two people injured about 12 miles southwest of Quincy Sunday night.

Responding sheriff's deputies located the accident about one mile south of White Trail Road on the Quincy Lakes access road.

Accident investigators determined a 17-year-old male juvenile from Quincy was distracted while searching for his cellular telephone and crossed over into the opposing lane of traffic, the Grant County Sheriff's Office reported.

The driver of the second vehicle, Dora Alicia Chavez, 52, also of Quincy, was headed in the opposite direction and was unable to avoid the collision.

Both drivers complained of neck and shoulder injuries and were transported to Quincy Valley Hospital by ambulance. The vehicles were towed from the scene. Damage estimates were not available.

The juvenile driver was cited for no valid operator's license, second-degree negligent driving and having no proof of insurance. Additionally, the boy's father will be cited for aiding and abetting his son's driving without a valid driver's license, the sheriff's office reported.
