Imogene (Jean) Strong

Imogene (Jean) Strong, age 80, our beloved and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother peacefully passed away June 22 surrounded by loved ones.

Jean was born May 23, 1926 in Oklahoma to Claude and Georgia Hughes Green. Following graduation she moved to California to begin a nursing program.

Jean met her husband to be, Alfred Lyle Strong and they married April 5, 1947.

All of Alfred and Jean's six children were born while they resided in their first family home in Cottage Grove, Ore.

In 1958, Jean, Alfred and the extended Strong family move to George to own and operate the family restaurant, Martha Inn, where she was known as "Mama Jean."

In 1974, Jean and Alfred moved to Ocean Shores to own and operate a drive-in. Then they moved to Seattle to be closer to Alfred's doctor. During this time, Jean managed an apartment complex and became a real estate agent.

After Alfred passed away in 1978, she moved back to George, sold real estate for a while and worked as a bookkeeper.

Some of Jean's passions were playing cards, fishing and collecting antiques but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Jean was a special grandmother who devoted much of her time and love with her grandchildren.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Georgia Green; sister, Opal Green; brothers, Jim and Barney Green (William and Stanley); husband, Alfred Strong; and sons, Danny and Ricky Strong.

She is survived by a brother, Bob Green of Springfield, Ore.; four children, Ron Strong of Othello, Randy (Sabrina) Strong and Terry Strong, both of Ephrata, Ala Jean Sainsbury of Whidbey Island; 12 grandchildren: Jeff (Corisa) Strong, David Milbrandt, Teresa (Doug) Hemmerling, Jennifer (Abel) Andrade, Heather (Mike) Wilson, Scott (Catherine) Strong, Jared (Alyssa) Strong, Sarah (Chris) Ivie, Aaron Strong, Eric Strong and Nicole Strong; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 26 at 11 a.m. at the Quincy Free Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Quincy Valley Cemetery. Scharbach's Columbia Funeral Chapel is in care of the arrangements.
