EPHRATA — A 22-year-old Coulee City woman collided with a cow while driving along the 17,000 block of Johnson Road about four miles west of Ephrata Friday night.

Lora Lee Hahn told responding sheriff's deputies she was driving her 1973 Buick coupe about 40 miles per hour when she was startled by a solid black cow standing in the center of her lane.

Hahn hit the cow on the right side of her vehicle, deploying two airbags inside. She suffered minor injuries to her right arm as shattered, flying glass filled the passenger's compartment of the vehicle.

Crash investigators determined Hahn's vehicle was totaled. It was towed from the scene.

The cow's owner dispatched the animal, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office.

The owner told investigators the cow apparently escaped through an unlatched gate before it had wandered onto the roadway.
