Margarita Hernandez
Margarita was born on Feb. 22, 1921 in Austin, Texas. Her father and mother were Jose and Herminia Castro. Participating in softball and track, excelling in both sports, marked her early school years.
She married Alejandro Hernandez on Aug. 23, 1943 in Robstown, Texas. Margarita and her family moved to Quincy in 1953 and worked in agriculture on several farms around the area. She exemplified a tenacious work ethic working until the age of 80 years old. She enjoyed keeping busy.
She had seven children whom she raised with tremendous love — they include three sons: Alex Hernandez Jr. of Ephrata, Angel Hernandez of Robstown, Texas and Jonas Hernandez of Great Falls, Mont. and four daughters: Adelina Marroquin of McAllen, Texas, Amparo Trevino of Houston, Texas, Alice Hernandez of Puyallup and Adriana Hernandez of Ephrata. Her strong discipline style forged the deep respect of her family members and those who were acquainted with her.
Margarita received a letter of appreciation from Colonel Thomas Deppe, Wing Commander of the 341st Space Wing, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont. for her unwavering support of Jonas' 21-year service commitment to the United States Air Force.
In 1980, she accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of her life. Her life epitomized the "virtuous woman" described in the book of Proverbs, chapter 31, being highly praised by her family. She had a beautiful voice, singing solos in church and in choirs. Her love of playing the violin further displayed her musical talent. She sang praises to the Lord on a constant basis and encouraged others to do the same.
Her time in prayer signified faith of monumental proportions as she spent hours praying and getting God involved in family affairs. Margarita's family celebrates with joy, as she is now present with the Lord Jesus.
