SPOKANE — A team of girls from Moses Lake High School finished third in a tournament held at Gonzaga Prep High School over the weekend.

The team opened the tournament 3-0 in pool play with victories over host Gonzaga Prep, Sandpoint (Idaho) and Rogers of Spokane.

The Moses Lake girls then defeated the Gonzaga Prep second team in the tournament quarterfinals before falling to Coeur d'Alene 47-46 in the semifinals.

"We played well enough to win the whole tournament, but didn't get some of the breaks to fall our way," said coach Matt Strophy. "I'm very proud of the girls' effort. We represented ourselves well."

Carly Noyes led Moses Lake in scoring with a 14.2 points per game average over the weekend. Noyes reached double figures in scoring in each of the team's five games. Marielle McKean scored just over 10 points per game in the tournament.

This coming weekend, the team will compete in the Pasco Tournament.
