Grocery store locating in west Moses Lake
Lep-Re-Kon Harvest Foods to break ground in October
MOSES LAKE — A new grocery store will open in the western part of the city next year.
It was announced last week that Harvest Foods owners Joe and Timo Montemayor will break ground in October on a new, 30,000 square foot Lep-Re-Kon Harvest Foods in west Moses Lake.
Joe Montemayor said locating in Moses Lake had been something the under consideration for about the last year and a half.
The new Lep-Re-Kon Harvest Foods will be located near the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Driggs Drive. Other store locations are in Othello, Mattawa and Connell.
"I think it will make our business stronger and I think we can make Moses Lake a little bit stronger too, especially that side of town," he said.
In a press release, Monte-mayor said he and his wife are excited to provide the city "great service and local ownership, and said there is no major grocer in the west Moses Lake area.
"Those who live around our new location are already excited about our opening," he added in the release.
The new Moses Lake Lep-Re-Kon Harvest Foods will feature a full service hot and cold deli department, in-store bakery, expanded produce and a meat department with an on-site staff to prepare any special cuts or assist with selections.
Ground breaking for the new construction is scheduled for late October, with the actual opening planned for May 2007.
In the release, Montemayor described his business philosophy as local ownership, local employees, quality products, many from the Basin area, and excellent service.
"Harvest Foods is committed to the Moses Lake community and we promise to be actively involved in local activities and programs," he said.
Montemayor said the new store will employ 55 to 65 people. That number includes full- and part-time.
