Bulldogs bite Jacks
QUINCY — Cashmere jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back on their way to defeating Quincy 46-29 Thursday.
Trailing 7-0 early, Raymond Evenson's 3-point basket got the Quincy on the board with 3:28 to play in the opening quarter.
Cashmere then outscored the Jacks 7-2 to end the first quarter with a 14-5 lead.
The Bulldogs used their size advantage to frustrate Quincy and limit the Jacks' offensive opportunities.
"It was obvious in the rebounding department," said Quincy coach Wade Petersen about Cashmere's size. "It caused lots of problems."
After closing to 14-7 on a Cade Kiehn basket with 6:54 remaining in the second quarter, Cashmere put together a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 13.
Quincy would trail by double-digits for the remainder of the game.
"We never really got in the game," said Petersen. "It got away from us early, and we couldn't get back in it."
While Quincy did well on the defensive end of the floor, offensive struggles plagued the Jacks for much of the night.
"We had lots of opportunities to get guys easy shots," Petersen said. "We just couldn't get the ball there in time or on target.
"We are usually better passers."
Leading 26-13 at halftime, the Bulldogs outscored Quincy 15-4 in the third quarter to take a commanding lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Jacks found their offensive rhythm, outscoring Cashmere 12-5 to end the game. Jeremy Weber, Chase Webley, Eric Martin and A.J. Gardner all came off the bench to score for Quincy in the fourth.
"We just need to keep working on the fundamentals," Petersen said of the Jacks'
Zac Bishop led Quincy with seven points. Cade Kiehn had six points for the Jacks, and Raymond Evenson added five points.
