Chiefs swim past Yakima schools

YAKIMA — Moses Lake defeated Eisenhower 103-77 and crushed Davis 141-39 to improve their record to 8-1.

Mario Polito qualified for state in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.70 . Polito has now qualified for state in six of eight individual swims.

Trevin Byington posted a time of 1:14.44 in the 100-yard butterfly to qualify for the districts meet.

Moses Lake, currently in second place, hosts Big Nine front-runner Eastmont on Thursday.

Othello topples Grandview

GRANDVIEW — Othello defeated Grandview 42-25 to move into sole possession of first place in the CWAC South. Grandview entered the night unbeaten and tied with Othello for first place in the south division.

Pins by Jake Simpson (103 lbs.), Freddie Flores (152 lbs.), Jacob Johnston (189 lbs.) and Michael Carmona (275 lbs.) helped carry the Huskies to victory.

Othello won nine of 14 matches on the night. At 119 pounds, Othello's Derek Stelter defeated Grandview's Dalton Walker 13-12.

Injuries forced Othello to make some lineup changes.

"We needed to juggle some kids around tonight," said Othello coach Ruben Martinez. "I think we're beyond that now. It couldn't happen at a better time."

Lady Chiefs qualify for regionals

SELAH — Moses Lake split four games with Selah and won by a 1713-1600 total pin count to qualify for the regional competition.

Michelle Reynolds had the high game for the Lady Chiefs with a 173.

Poor lane conditions kept the scores low for both teams.

"The condition was pretty rough on the girls," said coach Billy Brice. "It wasn't pretty, but we won."

Othello third at weekend tournament

HOQUIAM — Led by champion Phillip Ontiveros and runners-up Freddie Flores and Mat Garza, Othello finished third at the Hoquiam Alumni Invitational.

Ontiveros earned a 10-7 decision over defending 2A state champion Anthoni Heffernan of Orting to win the 140 pound title. For his efforts, Ontiveros earned the co-outstanding wrestler award for the tournament.

Flores and Garza each lost decisions to defending 2A state champions in their finals contests.

Othello finished one point behind second place Cashmere, despite having some varsity wrestlers out of the lineup.

"I felt that we did as well as we were going to do under the circumstances," said Othello coach Ruben Martinez.

Team Scores: 1st - W.F. West (Chehalis), 206.5; 2nd - Cashmere, 160; 3rd - Othello, 159; 4th - Elma, 158; 5th - Orting, 153.5.
