Lions control game start to finish

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake Christian Academy jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating Kittitas 63-44.

"They did a very good job tonight," said head coach Lonnie Brown. "They did everything we asked them to do and got the ball inside."

Phillip Friehe got things started for the Lions with a drive to the hoop after tip off to make it 2-0.

On the next trip down court, David Timofeyev connected with Josh Munoz for a layup.

Munoz continued to play well on both ends of the court with a putback and another layup off of an assist from David Timofeyev to make it 10-4.

"Munoz is playing very well. He's got a bounce in his step," said Brown. "More importantly, he's playing well within our system. That's all we ask."

Taylor McNamara came off the bench for Moses Lake to make some plays on defense and keep his team comfortably ahead of Kittitas.

"Taylor is doing well in his spot," Brown said. "We're at a place where everyone is comfortable with their positions on the team. If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Late in the first quarter, Kittitas drained a 3-point shot to tie the game at 11 before Riggs Yarbro drew the foul and put Moses Lake up by two.

The Lions extended their lead to 10 by halftime with scoring help from Munoz who had three consecutive buckets during the early goings of the second quarter.

Casey Hudson scored his first points of the night during the second period, on a mid-range jumper to make it 23-14.

David Timofeyev had the final points of the half with a putback.

Kittitas fouled 10 seconds into the third quarter and put Daniel Timofeyev on the line for two shots.

Daniel Timofeyev then connected with Munoz on the run for another two to make it 30-17.

"Daniel Timofeyev had seven assists," Brown said. "He's getting the ball to the people who need it. I'm happy with that."

Yarbro earned another putback, going up for a one-handed shovel into the hoop.

With two minutes left in the third, Munoz drained Moses Lake's only three of the game to extend the lead to 26.

Kittitas scored four unanswered points before McNamara found Munoz for the Lions' final score of the period.

Moses Lake survived a two minute scoring drought at the beginning of the fourth quarter that was broken by Munoz going 2 for 2 from the freethrow line.

The Lions fouled twice in the final minute of the game but the trips to the foul line were not enough to get Kittitas back into the game.

Munoz finished with 30 points and 11 rebounds. Yarbro finished with 12 points. Daniel Timofeyev seven assists.
