Katie Stoker

Katie Stoker, 95, Moses Lake, Wa. died Sunday Jan. 15, 2006 at Wenatchee Hospital.

Katie was born on Oct. 7, 1910 in Karlsruhe, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Thomas) Heffner. She attended school in Karlsruhe and Hebron, N.D., where her father worked in brick plants.

She married Asle Larson Aug. 25, 1931 at Towner, N.D. They lived in the Karlsruhe area where daughter Janeta was born. They then moved to Sawyer, N.D. in 1938 where two more daughters were born, Ivadell and Luella. Asle owned the blacksmith shop in Sawyer until his death in 1967. Katie was widely known for her beautiful and big gardens and flowers.

In 1969 Katie moved to Kent. She married Paul Stoker in 1971 and they made their home in the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho area. They moved to Moses Lake in 1993. Paul died in 2000. Katie lived in the Chestnut Grove Apts. where she had many friends that will miss her dearly. No one can forget her fresh bread and buns she made right up to within a few weeks before her passing. She loved to sew and do crafts to give to her many friends and loved ones.

Survivors include daughters Janeta (Harvey) Geyer, Minot, N.D.; Luella (Curtis) Sandberg, Black Diamond; Ivadell (Larry) Riley, Moses Lake; sisters Betty Heffner, Glasgow, Mont.; Rose (Bud) Bruno, Great Falls, Mont.; Myrtle (Ole) Ammundsen, Dayton, Mont.; Pauline Walker, Minot, N.D.; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Asle, husband Paul, sisters Mary Walters, Francis Backmier, brothers Thomas, Bruno, Jake and Joe Heffner.
