Ephrata soldier killed in Iraq helicopter crash
EPHRATA — Friends and family will pay their respects in honor of 1st Lt. Jaime Lynn (Krausse) Campbell at services this weekend.
Campbell died Jan. 7, when her Black Hawk helicopter went down in northern Iraq. The 25-year-old will be remembered in a memorial service Friday and funeral service Saturday in Ephrata. Campbell is the daughter of Jeffrey and Miki Krausse of Ephrata, and wife of Capt. Samuel F. Campbell. She graduated from Ephrata High School in 1998, and graduated with a degree in apparel, design and merchandising from Washington State University in 2002.
Campbell was a former Washington State rodeo queen and Ephrata High School student body president. She joined the Washington National Guard in 1999 and initially served in the Ephrata-based 1161st Transportation Company. Campbell joined the Alaska National Guard in 2003 and later attended the Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course and Officer Basic Course at Fort Rucker, Ala.
She had been serving with the 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment of the Alaska Army National Guard deployed to Iraq in August 2004. She was one of two pilots of a UH-60 helicopter that went down near Tal Afar in northern Iraq. The Black Hawk was providing support for the 101st Airborne Division, and Campbell was one of 12 people killed when it crashed.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church at 323 D Street SW.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1301 Division Avenue East. Viewing for family and friends is scheduled from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Graveside services will follow the service with full military honors, presentation of posthumous awards and a UH-60 Flyover.
