Noyes leads team down low

MOSES LAKE — It took almost four minutes before Moses Lake could put up the first point of the night against Kamiakin Saturday. The Chiefs defeated the Lady Braves 36-23.

"We dominated them in the first half," said head coach Matt Strophy. "The second half was a little iffy."

The Braves fouled Carly Noyes, who went 1-for-2 from the freethrow line, giving Moses Lake the opportunity to put up the first point of the night from either team.

Moses Lake did not maintain their lead for long.

Ann Noyes fouled and Kamiakin was able to tie the game up at one.

With three minutes left in the quarter, Marielle McKean found A. Noyes for a layup and then found C. Noyes to make it 5-1 and force Kamiakin to call a time out.

"Carly Noyes and Kelly Sutherland played great," Strophy said. "Carly had nine of her 11 points in the second quarter."

McKean followed up her two assists with a putback to earn some points of her own.

A. Noyes connected with C. Noyes to give Moses Lake the final score of the quarter and make it 9-1.

The Chiefs began the second quarter with a quick turnover and foul but were able to get back on track when Brin Bergeson passed inside to C. Noyes for a bucket.

On the next trip down court, Kelly Sutherland lit up the floor, draining a three to make it 14-3.

"Kelly earned the game ball," said Strophy. "She led the team, playing point guard all night and played well under the pressure from Kamiakin's defense."

McKean found C. Noyes again and pushed the lead to 13 with five minutes remaining in the half.

With two minutes left in the second period, Sutherland took a trip to the line and made both to make it 22-5.

Sutherland scored the last bucket of the half on a pull up jump shot to make it 26-5.

C. Noyes had 11 points. Sutherland had 10 points. McKean had seven points.
