Big Bend makes a push, could not get over the hurdle
MOSES LAKE — The Lady Vikes battled to take a 20-18 lead in the first half but lost the ball game 82-67.
"The girls played very hard," said head coach Craig Randall.
Wenatchee jumped out to a 7-0 lead after winning the tip-off before Big Bend was able to score. Cheyenne Hudson snapped the Wenatchee scoring streak with a baby jumper.
Jenna Ball followed Hudson's score with a long jumper of her own to bring Big Bend within three.
Calli Jo Turner continued the scoring for the Lady Vikings with a turn around jumper to make it 9-6.
Ball stepped back for a 3-point shot halfway through the first half to tie the game at 11.
Liz Biermann connected with Hudson for a layup to tie the game again before Big Bend committed a turnover and a foul that put Wenatchee ahead by three.
Turner assisted Hudson for a layup to tie the game at 18 and was then assisted by Ball for a layup of her own and the only lead of the game for the Lady Vikes.
Wenatchee then went on a 7-0 scoring run to retake the lead.
Brandy Haley scored her first points of the game on a long 3-point shot with just under five minutes left in the half.
Carty followed her layup with a baby jumper to pull Big Bend within three.
The Lady Vikes continued to battle and went into the locker room down 39-32 at the half.
The Lady Vikes were plagued by turnovers and early fouls to begin the second half.
Hudson earned a bucket and was fouled on the way up. Her shot from the line made it a 9-point game.
"Cheyenne really stepped up and was a more verbal leader tonight," said Randall. "We needed that."
Hudson led the team with 21 points nad had 12 rebounds. Ball had 17 points and seven rebounds. Biermann, Haley and Turner had eight points each.
