MOSES LAKE — The Chiefs rallied from a 26 point third quarter deficit to close within three points, but couldn't finish the comeback as they fell to Eisenhower 69-65 Friday night.

Mitch Roylance hit a 3-pointer with 11 seconds remaining to bring the Moses Lake within three, but that was as close as the Chiefs would get.

Leading 34-25 at halftime, Eisenhower opened the third quarter with a 17-0 scoring run. With the score 51-25 in favor of Eisenhower, Moses Lake began chipping away at the lead.

Daniel Dalton scored the Chiefs' first points of the quarter with 3:22 remaining in the period. The basket started a four minute run in which the Chiefs outscored Ike 14-4 to cut the lead to 16.

After the Cadets scored to take a 59-41 lead, Roylance hit a 3-pointer for the Chiefs.

On the next Moses Lake possession, Josh Loera scored from inside and was fouled in the process. Loera sank the free throw to complete the three point play and put Moses Lake down 59-47.

With 4:35 remaining in the game, Quinn Baker scored to trim the Eisenhower lead to 10 and force the Cadets to call a time-out.

Moses Lake turned up the defensive intensity after the time-out, scoring on two quick steals to push the score to 52-59.

A rebound and inside bucket from BJ Guerra put the Chiefs down six with two minutes to play.

With 1:08 remaining Cody Meeks nailed a jumper from the top of key and was fouled in the process. The free throw pulled the Chiefs to within five.

Moses Lake head coach Brant Mayo said the team's effort was the difference in the fourth quarter.

"They decided they would play hard in the fourth quarter and it showed," Mayo said.

Mayo praised the efforts of Meeks and Ryan Carpenter, but said the team as a whole didn't come ready to play.

"We hadn't practiced well, and you practice like you play," said Mayo. "It took us three quarters to get out of the funk."

Baker led Moses Lake with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Roylance added 11 points for the Chiefs.
