| January 3, 2006 8:00 PM

GEORGE — A 54-year-old man died Saturday evening in a one-vehicle accident when his pickup truck slid off an icy stretch of roadway and struck a power pole, authorities said Tuesday.

John Bruce Nix of George was headed southbound on Adams Road South when he hit an icy section about a half mile south of Interstate 90, forcing him to lose control of his 1978 Ford pickup truck. His truck left the roadway and impacted a Grant County Public Utility District power pole, the Grant County Sheriff's Officer reported.

Nix was declared dead at the scene, the GCSO stated.

Investigators determined he was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the vehicle. Speed was a factor in the accident, the GCSO stated.

Nix's vehicle was declared totaled.

Several residences near the accident lost power due to the collision, the GCSO stated.
