Samaritan Hospital welcomes first baby born in 2006
MOSES LAKE — Gladys Lissette Carrillo Rodriguez was the first baby born in 2006 at Samaritan Hospital.
Born at 2:23 a.m. Jan. 2, Gladys weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 181/2 inches long at birth.
This is the second daughter born to mother Alma Rodriguez of Quincy.
As for having her baby be the first born for 2006 at Samaritan Hospital, Alma said she was excited her baby might be the first born in the new year.
"I've always liked that name," Alma said of why she chose the name Gladys.
No babies were delivered at Samaritan Hospital on Jan. 1.
Compared to her first delivery with now 3-year-old daughter Litzy Rodriguez, who was more than 10 pounds at birth and 21 inches long, Gladys' birth was easier for Alma.
Labor lasted three hours this time instead of 12, Alma said.
While being pregnant with Gladys, salads from McDonald's was the food Alma craved most.
"I would go every week," Alma said.
With her first child it was nachos, grandmother Luc Rodriguez chimed in.
Gladys is Luc's fourth grandchild.
With a new baby and a new year ahead, Alma wants to put her efforts into balancing the duties of being both a mom and a student.
Alma plans on graduating from Quincy High School this spring and wants to go on to study to be a medical assistant.
Luc said she wants to continue to help Alma take care of her 3-year-old daughter and newborn baby so she can graduate.
Alma and baby Gladys are expected to go home today.
When asked what she wants to do first upon bringing Gladys home, Alma said visiting with family will be top on the list.
"Probably my whole family is going to be there," Alma said.
