Chiefs crowned Oregon tournament champions

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Moses Lake won six duals in total to become champions of the Northwest Duals Tournament this weekend.

In the second day of competition, Moses Lake beat Lake 51-24 and Century 42-21.

The two wins put them in the semi-finals where they faced Crook County. The Chiefs won 41-22.

Individual results from the dual included: 119 - Matt Palmer beat Shane Rhoden 9-4; 125 - Michael Gast beat Gabe Guzman 7-0; 130 - Cody Dixon beat Tom Pfiffer 6-0; 135 - Cody Hoiness pinned Tyler McCormack in 54 seconds; 140 - Ryan Smith pinned Jordan Hill at 1:02; 145 - Trevor Cole beat Jace Lewis 5-4; 152 - Thomas Courtright won a major decision over Luke Thompson 14-3; 160 - Josh Neilsen pinned Kelli Puckett in 46 seconds; 171 - Kevin Tholin pinned Jacob Newman; 189 - Stevie Vasquez pinned Tom Levitt at 1:17; 215 - John Fackrell beat Chris Robertson 9-1; 275 - Brett Fredrickson beat Tyrell Albert 8-3; 103 - Tyler Vela pinned Ryilee Wood at 1:53; 112 - Brett Gast won a major decision over Roberto Cruz 16-7.

Moses Lake squared-off against St. Helens in the championship dual and won 49-18.

Individual results from that dual included: 125 - Gabe Guzman pinned Brandon Booth at 4:42; 130 - Knight Yabut won a major decision over Tom Pfiffer 11-0; 135 - Cody Hoiness pinned Doug Weaver in 38 seconds; 140 - Jordan Hill pinned Zack Tice at 3:43; 145 - Dustin Helderman beat Trevor Cole 8-3; 152 - Thomas Courtright beat James Taylor 8-3; 160 - Robbie Lammers pinned Josh Neilsen at 1:26; 171 - Joel Meevwsen won by technical fall over Ty Sainsbury 20-5; 189 - Stevie Vasquez pinned Caleb Baker in 23 seconds; 215 - John Fackrell pinned Mike Greenhaulgh at 1:48; 275 - Brett Fredrickson won 4-3 in double overtime against Tyler Hills; 103 - Tyler Vela won by forfeit; 112 - Roberto Cruz won a major decision over Shaun Stewart 17-6; 119 - Matt Palmer beat Zack Belton 16-9.

The Chiefs also earned a plaque for most pins in the tournament.

"It (the win) was great for the kids," said head coach Jamie Wise. "They gave it all they had and did a great job battling and improving."
