Genevieve Gerlinden Ries

Genevieve Gerlinden Ries was born on February 19, 1915 and went to be with our Lord on February 19, 2006. She was 91 years old. Gen had 10 siblings of whom three are still living. She has two brothers, Chuck and Paul in Michigan where she was born, and one sister, Clara, who lives in New Mexico.

In 1936 Gen married Kenneth Norton Ries in Angola, Ind. They had three children. The oldest is Nancy Ries McDaniel (Pat) from Albuquerque, N.M. and Jim Ries (Linda) from Marine View Heights and Fred Ries (Cheryl) from Joliet, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, in 1995.

Gen loved children and her grandchildren were the delight of her life. She had eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She delighted in sewing and making crafts as well as doing needlework. She made numerous dolls which were her trademark. She was famous for her molasses and sugar cookies. She and her husband loved to fish and the family has many stories about Mom's fish fries.

She leaves a void in many lives. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services were held at Lakeside Missionary Church on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, with Pastor Joey Zamora from World Christian Ministries in Tri-Cities presiding. Pallbearers were six of her grandsons who came to attend the funeral from many parts of the United States. Arrangements were entrusted to Stevens Funeral Chapel in Othello. Burial was at Pioneer Memorial Gardens in Moses Lake beside her husband of over 50 years.
