Ortie Eugene La Voy
Ortie Eugene La Voy passed away Feb. 20. He was 93 years old. Born Oct. 21, 1912 in Marshal, Minn. where he grew up. He claimed his mother chose his unusual first name because she liked the name of a successful famous gambler of the time.
He moved to Minneapolis where he worked and went to the University of Minnesota studying architecture. He married Hazel Wolfe, born in Glenwood, Minn., prior to service with the Army Engineers as a Master Sergeant in Europe during WWII. He began his long career at Weyerhaeuser Co. in St. Paul, Minn. and in 1960 transferred to Tacoma. After retiring from Weyerhaeuser he continued to work in the wood products industry and finally retired at the age of 69 to hunt and fish, his life long passion.
He spent the last two years at Hearthstone Retirement Center in Moses Lake. He was preceded in death by Hazel, his brother Harley and a grandson Cory. He is survived by a sister, Ethlyn Ufken, sons Gordon (Georgia) and Larrie (Anne), grandson Andy, granddaughter Callie, and many who were touched by his heart.
No memorial services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Diabetes Association.
