Rosaline Doris Preston
Rosaline Doris Preston of Warden was born Nov. 14, 1923 in Kent, Ore. to John William Waldner and Marjorie Alice (Haynes) Waldner in Kent, Ore. She died on Feb. 5 in Moses Lake. She attended schools in Kent, Ore; Irving Creek and Eureka, Calif. and graduated from Brandon High School in Brandon, Ore.
On Sept. 14, 1942, she married Harold Briscoe Preston and they lived and operated Long Prairie Ranch in Blue Lake, Calif. where they raised cattle and their two children. She was a past president of the Humboldt County Cow Belles and was active as a 4-H leader.
In 1962 they moved to Warden where they continued to farm and raise Shorthorns in partnership with their son and daughter-in-law, John and Helen Preston, until their retirement. They traveled Europe to visit relatives in Switzerland and Germany. They also traveled the United States in their motorhome.
Rose was active and held offices in the Grant County Cattlewomen and State Cattlewomen Association. She was also active in the Grant County Farm Bureau. She was an organizing member of the Karneetsa Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was very proud of her membership and the nine ancestors of the Revolutionary War.
She co-authored two books with Carol Huber: "The Preston/Lindsey Trail" and "The Preston/Lindsey Trail Book II." Genealogy was one of her greatest joys, second only to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband; son John and Helen Preston of Warden; daughter Joyce and Charles Stroeher of Port Angeles; grandsons, Michael and Tessa Palmquist of Wilbur, Wayne and Maggie Palmquist of Silverton, Ore., Brian and Danette Preston and Bruce and Wendy Preston, both of Moses Lake; granddaughter Cherie and Charlie Anderson of Ashton, Idaho; stepmother Violet Anderson of Seiad Valley, Calif.; stepbrothers Jordan Briggs of Redding, Calif. and Glen Briggs of Seiad Valley; stepsisters Gloria Brophy, Jean Vickery of Seiad Valley, Calif. and Jackie Guintini of McKinleyville, Calif.; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and friends also survive her.
Sister Kathryn Jackson and grandson Steven Palmquist preceded her in death.
