Chiefs dominate Eastmont

Chiefs score nine 3-point shots

MOSES LAKE — Quinn Baker scored a layup from in the paint to give Moses Lake the lead in the first quarter, the Chiefs never looked back and won 76-56.

Early in the first quarter, Moses Lake struggled to get their offense set but as time ticked down they got their game started.

The first sign that the scoring tides were changing came after an Eastmont turnover.

Moses Lake ran the floor but had trouble capitalizing on the turnover. After some baubling of the ball, Josh Loera took control of the ball and sank a long jumpshot to get the Chiefs within one.

Baker gave Moses Lake the lead and Loera sealed the deal for the Chiefs, draining a 3-ball with five seconds left in the period.

Moses Lake settled into their game in the second quarter, disrupting Eastmont's offense and getting shots to fall.

With five minutes remaining in the half, Brad Earl drained a 3-point shot to give Moses Lake a 13-point lead on Eastmont.

The Chiefs continued to play well on offense, with BJ Guerra making his presence felt down low.

On the outside, Mitch Roylance was able to make his presence felt as well, sinking a three with under three minutes to play in the half and pushing the lead to 32-14.

Earl found Ryan Carpenter for another 3-ball with time winding down and Loera hit the final three of the half to make it 40-22.

Defensively, Moses Lake held Eastmont to just eight points in the second quarter and a meager 29 percent shooting from the floor.

The Chiefs came out swinging in the second half, opening up the third quarter with Loera finding Guerra in the low post for a layup.

Eastmont began to play with desperation rather than intensity and, with the increase in fouls, Moses Lake was able to start earning trips to the line.

Loera had a pair of freethrows late in the third period to keep his team ahead by 15.

With less than two minutes left in the quarter, Roylance hit 3-ball and followed it up with another from the baseline to make it 54-37.

In the fourth quarter, Eastmont had four consecutive fouls to send Moses Lake into the bonus at the line.

Tyson Garcia made an impact on the floor, hitting a three with six minutes remaining in the game to give Moses Lake a 20-point lead.

Roylance had the final 3-point shot of the night after an assist to Guerra on the previous trip down court.

Earl made a pair of freethrows late in the game to push Moses Lake's lead to 23.

With 48 seconds remaining in the game, Ryan Carpenter fouled out.

Earl had the last score of the night, getting credited with a tip-in just before the buzzer signaled the end of the game.

Roylance led the team with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and shot 4-for-6 from 3-point range. Baker had 14 points and eight rebounds. Loera had 12 points and was 2-for-2 from the arc. Guerra had 10 points.
