Luana Johnson
Luana Johnson, formerly of Moses Lake and Spokane, passed away in Ogden, Utah on Jan. 18. Born to Spencer and Anna May Collins on Nov. 4, 1925, she was just nine months old when her father was killed in an auto/train accident. Later her mother married John L. Chadwick who raised her as one of his own.
Luana graduated from Brigham Young University with a education degree, and married A. Dale Johnson on Aug. 14, 1947 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. She taught in both the Orem and Prove school districts for five years and then the family moved to Moses Lake where she taught music and PE. Her husband taught orchestra in the local schools. Later they moved to Spokane and continued teaching until they moved to Deer Park where they retired. In 1993 they relocated to Ogden were they have been active in church and community activities.
Dale and Luana have filled their lives with many service activites including LDS Church employment mission (Spokane), community service, family history work, and music. For several years they have played for numerous retirement centers and nursing homes providing violin, piano and vocal music for senior citizens.
Luana has written over 100 children's songs and collaborated with Dale publishing a children's songbook and tape in 1979. In her church she served in the primary and the relief society and for many years was a pianist, chorister and choir director.
She will always be remembered as a kind, gracious lady with a sense of humor that made others happy around her.
Luana is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Dale; and their children and their spouses: Luan Child of Clarkston; Scott Johnson of American Fork, Ut; Janette Hemingway of West Jordan, Ut: Paul Johnson of Cedar Rapids, IA; 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Luana is also survived by a stepsister, Laura Kump, North Ogden, Ut; and stepbrother, John Chadwick of North Salt Lake, Ut.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, stepfather, sister Noreen, stepsister Karma Schmalz and stepbrother Rulon Chadwick.
Funeral services were held at the Lorin Farr LDS Chapel in Ogden on Jan. 21 and interment was at Ogden City Cemetery.
