Lady Devils dominate Cascade Christian
Wilson Creek recovers from turnovers to earn victory
WILSON CREEK — Despite some set-backs, Wilson Creek was able to defeat the Lady Wolverines of Cascade Christian Academy 49-27 Monday.
The Lady Devils suffered several turnovers in the first half but were able to recover in the second half to earn victory.
"We finally woke up in the second half," said Wilson Creek head coach Paul Friend.
Wilson Creek won the tip and struck first when Tiffany Friend connected with Kelsey Campbell for a layup but the rest of the points scored, were tough battles, with the teams ending the period in an 8-8 tie after four turnovers in the closing minute of the quarter.
Cascade Christian opened the second quarter with a 3-ball to take a brief lead, their first and last lead of the game, before fouling Tiffany Friend. Tiffany cut the lead to two with a 1-for-2 stint at the line. Then Ksenja Fredere tied the game at 11 with a layup.
One minute later, the Lady Devils found themselves with the lead again, after Fredere found Holly Wilson in the paint for a layup.
Not to be forgotten, Cascade Christian tied the game at 15 but suffered back-to-back steals by Wilson Creek's Campbell.
Both teams weathered a scoring drought that was broken with under two minutes to play in the half when Fredere drove the lane to earn a bucket and give the lead back to Wilson Creek.
The Lady Wolverines tied the game at 17 to end the half.
Tiffany Friend opened the third quarter with a steal and dish to give Wilson Creek the lead for the final time and added a long jump shot on the next trip down court to spark the Lady Devils' pulling away from Cascade Christian.
Wilson Creek continued to pressure the Lady Wolverines, holding them scoreless through the third quarter and opening up a 16-point lead.
Cascade Christian ended the scoring drought in the fourth quarter but it was too little too late, earning just 10 points in the period.
"Ksenja (Fredere) played well for us and played hard on defense," said Friend. "Our season really begins in January, ready or not."
Fredere lead the winning effort for the Lady Devils with 12 points, 10 rebounds, six blocked shots and five assists. Wilson earned 12 points and 11 boards for Wilson Creek. Brittnee Reyes and Campbell recorded eight points each. Tiffany Friend earned five points and recorded five steals. Jackie Treat and Ashley Rodriquez had two points each.
