Big Bend falls to Edmonds in overtime thriller

MOSES LAKE — Kim Bluff earned a 47-46 lead for her team with a pull-up jumper on the baseline Saturday against Edmonds and then went to the line to shoot two.

Bluff's trip ended 1-for-2 and the Lady Tritons took advantage of the one possession game, making a bucket of their own to tie the game at 48 and then surpassing the Lady Vikings with another basket.

With time winding down, Calli Jo Turner caught an inbounds pass and kissed a shot of the glass to send the game into overtime.

As overtime began, Heather Burke was able to draw a foul and give Big Bend a 1-point lead after going 1-for-2.

Edmonds answered with a field goal to take the lead from the Lady Vikings.

On the next play the Lady Tritons drew a foul from Burke, who committed her fifth foul of the game, and took a 3-point lead with a perfect trip to the line.

Bluff connected with Cisca Moore to shave the Edmonds lead down to one point.

It did not stay there for long. Big Bend was forced to foul with time running out and put Edmonds on the line for back-to-back free throws, in the two visits the Lady Tritons went 3-for-4 and defeated the Lady Vikes 57-53.

Big Bend jumped out to an early 7-1 lead to begin the game but suffered a scoring drought that allowed Edmonds to pull within one.

Both teams continued to battle and the tides looked to have turned when Burke hit a three to make it a 21-14 ball game but Edmonds responded with four unanswered points, keeping the game close through the first half.

Early in the second half the Lady Tritons went on a 13-0 scoring run to take the lead and did not relinquish it until Turner's jump shot sent the game into overtime.

Bluff led the team with 17 points and 10 boards. Turner had 16 points and 13 rebounds. Burke had nine points. Whitney Rostad recorded seven assists.

Friday, the Lady Vikes matched up against the Northwest Indian College Lady Eagles and defeated them 85-41.

Moore led the team scoring in that effort with 13 points. Rostad and Bluff had 12 points a piece. Turner had 11 points and 12 boards.
