Prayer breakfast slated for Tuesday
MOSES LAKE — Residents throughout Grant County will join in prayer one morning next week.
The 12th annual Grant County Mayors' Prayer Breakfast is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Tuesday in the ATEC building on the Big Bend Community College campus.
Former Washington Redskins Quarterback Jay Schroeder will highlight a morning of prayers which organizers say is an opportunity for the community to enjoy a message of faith, and provide prayers and support to the citizens throughout Grant County.
The Kiwanis Club of Moses Lake is organizing the event, and breakfast organizer Joann Hosszu said the event is put on each year, "to join together in fellowship in the communities of Grant County."
Hosszu said the prayer breakfast is part of a tradition in the United States, dating back to when the U.S. Congress initiated the first one in 1953 with President Dwight Eisenhower presiding.
Schroeder is the keynote speaker at the breakfast, which will also feature prayers and speeches from a number of local governmental and religious leaders. The Kiwanis Club of Moses Lake is organizing the event with help from the clubs in Ephrata, Warden and Quincy. Proceeds earned above the event's cost go toward scholarships for area students.
Tickets for the breakfast are $15, and can be purchased at the door Tuesday. Tickets are also available for purchase at the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce at 324 S. Pioneer Way, Elements Inside & Out at 922 W. Broadway Avenue and Andrew's Hallmark at 102 W. Third Avenue.
