Sandra Lee "Sandy" Rawls

Walla Walla resident, Sandra Lee "Sandy" Rawls, 65, died peacefully at her home on April 19, 2006. Sandy was born April 7, 1941 in Walla Walla to Franklin "Doc" and Shirley Baker Cline. She graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1959. She attended Willamette University, and CWU where she received a master's degree. She earned an Ed.D. from WSU. On August 4, 1990 she and David Rawls married in Moses Lake. In July 2002 they moved to Walla Walla from Coeur d'Alene.

Sandy was a professional educator all her adult life as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. She worked in Quincy, Ephrata and Warden School Districts during her career. She was an active member of PEO Chapter FT, St Paul's Episcopal Church, and the Walla Walla Country Club. Professionally she was a member of the Washington Assoc. of School Administrators, American Assoc. of University Women, and Phi Delta Kappa.

Sandy was a generous, kind and gracious woman with a bright and beautiful smile for everyone. She loved life and its relationship with people; always seeking to unlock the best in others. She embodied the wholeness and purpose of God's plan for her, living her life in Christian witness. Sandy had indomitable amounts of grit and determination in fighting the disease of cancer that finally took her body but never her spirit.

She is survived by her husband, David Rawls at home; a stepdaughter, Paula Kay of Eagle River, Alaska; a son ,Todd DeGabriele of Lake Stevens; stepson Justin Rawls of Bow; her father, Franklin "Doc" Cline of Walla Walla; a brother, Chuck Cline of Port Orchard; former husband Robert DeGabriele of Bothell; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Shirley Cline.

A memorial service was held Saturday, April 22, 2006 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Regional Cancer Center through the Mountain View-Colonial Dewitt Funeral Services, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
