All fitness levels encouraged to participate

GRAND COULEE — On Sunday, May 14, Pacific Northwest runners and walkers will have a chance to participate in one of the most scenic and unique runs: The Over the Dam Run at Grand Coulee Dam.

The 5k/10k and half marathon takes runners up and over the dam and then out along the Columbia River in North Central Washington.

The race is produced by Total Health Events of Blaine. They are also known for organizing the Grand Columbian Iron and Half Iron Triathlon also held in the Grand Coulee Dam area.

Initially started in 1977, the Over the Dam Run was organized by a group of avid runners from Spokane and eastern Washington.

In later years the Lions Club and Lake Roosevelt High School students organized the event.

Last year the event was taken over by Total Health Events as a fund-raiser for health interventions to overcome childhood obesity.

The race is intended to be a celebration of all fitness levels from accomplished runners to new athletes.

For more information interested athletes and volunteers may contact Grand Coulee Dam Chamber of Commerce at 1-800-268-5332 or visit www.overthedamrun.com
