Mondell Gillette Hankins

Mondell Gillette Hankins, 83, of Ephrata passed away on April 2 at Veterans Hospital in Seattle. He was born on February 9, 1923 to Benjamin F. and Mary Ola Hankins in Bixby, Okla. Mr. Hankins married Dollie Mae Johnston on July 28,1942 in 0kmulgee, Okla. Mondell came to Stratford in 1949 and worked on the Columbia Basin Canal. He started to farm in 1953 in Stratford until 1975; he then moved south of Ephrata in 1975 and he retired in 2002 then he moved to Seattle area after a accident in 2002.

Mr. Hankins was drafted November 1942 during World War II and was later discharged November 1945. While in the military he served in Normandy, Germany, France and also served with the Army Engineers. He is a member of VFW, Eagles, and the American Legion.

He enjoyed playing cards with friends and country music. He was awarded the Expert Rifleman and received miscellaneous accommodations. He is survived by his daughter Shirley Ann Mangold and husband Doug of Ephrata, brother Benjamin R. Hankins of Ephrata, grandchildren Dollie Dee Lutz and Tommy Douglas Mangold both of Ephrata; five great-grandchildren Aaron, Ryan, Stephanie and Tyler Lutz and Ky Douglas Mangold all of Ephrata, nephew Benjamin R. Hankins, great-nephew Benjamin Nolan Hankins and nieces Emily Jean Hankins and Jane Elizabeth Hankins.

He was preced in death by his wife Dollie Mae Hankins and his mother and father.

Services will be held on Saturday April 8 at 1 p.m. at the Funeral Home Chapel in Ephrata. Services are under the care of Nicoles Funeral Home in Ephrata.
