Musicians band together for Hurricane Katrina victims
Five bands perform at Centennial Amphitheater
MOSES LAKE— Local musicians have banded together to bring Moses Lake a chance to give to Hurricane Katrina victims and listen to great music.
On Oct. 8 at the Centennial Amphitheater five bands — Lunker, a rock group; Tejano Skyz, a Tex-Mex group; Cynosure, an all-girl rock band; Idle Fill, a Christian rock band; and Moral Crux, a punk rock group — will be performing from 1 to 6 p.m.
Vennie Trujillo, a local musician, and his family were looking for a way to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina and came up with the idea as an easy way for the community as a whole to assist those in need. What started out as a simple concept quickly spread.
Trujillo started talking to local business and community members such as the Mystical Flight Studios, local radio station KDRM, Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department and local musicians for support.
"I give all the credit not to myself, but to the community I live in. This is going to be big," said Trujillo.
Organizers of this family-oriented concert will be asking for a $5 donation that will be going directly to the Red Cross and benefiting those in need.
"This isn't about me or the people helping set up the concert, it's a celebration of the community banding together and helping," Trujillo said.
