Alvin R. Schaffer

Alvin R. Schaffer, 83, Warden resident, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2005 at Samaritan Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Moses Lake with Pastor Darayl Larsen officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Warden. Viewing will be held Monday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Kayser's Chapel and Crematory. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel and Crematory, Moses Lake.

Alvin was born March 14, 1922 in Crested Butte, Colo., son of the late Carl and Mabel Schaffer. He served as an Army Medic during World War II and when he returned from the service he married his sweetheart, Madalynn Skeels on Dec. 26, 1945 in Grand Junction, Colo. They made their home in Fruita, Colo. where they farmed. Their daughter Jeanette was born in Grand Junction, Colo.

In 1954 they moved to Warden to farm and have lived there since. Alvin was an active member of the Moses Lake Seventh-day Adventist church serving in several capacities over the years. A favorite pastime was to count cars on holidays that passed by their home near I-90. Alvin and Madalynn were snowbirds to Yuma, Ariz. for 23 years beginning in 1978.

Alvin is survived by his loving wife, Madalynn Schaffer, Warden; one daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Larry Blue, Adams, Ore.; three brothers and sisters-in law, Fred and Lila Schaffer, Bend, Ore., LeRoy and Linda Schaffer, Moses Lake, and Benjamin and Florence Schaffer, Warden; one sister and brother-in-law, Roberta and Glen Blasdel, Prosser; one grandson, Jerry Blue, Adams, Ore.; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris, Juanita and Lucille, and two brothers, Wilbur Schaffer and Carl Schaffer, Jr.
