Second annual event to raise money for breast cancer takes place Saturday

MOSES LAKE — Stamping is more than just a part of Jan Przybylski's job as a sales consultant with Stampin' Up!

Rather, it is how Przybylski and other business owners and community members from We Be Stampin', Scrappin' Ladies and All about Scrappin' came together a year ago to begin the annual Stamp Out Breast Cancer event, now in its second year.

"We all sell something so different that we're friends, we're competing businesses, but we're also each other's customers," Przybylski said. "We just kind of did it and called our friends and said, 'Do you want to help?' And before we knew it, it was really big."

On Saturday, Stamp Out Breast Cancer will be held from 6 p.m. to midnight at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church CCD Center in Moses Lake located at 200 N. Dale Road.

Guest speakers from the Breast Cancer Support Group in Moses Lake and breast cancer survivor Jan DeBeaumont will speak from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a silent auction going on between 6 and 8 p.m. From 8 p.m. to midnight, attendees can work on stamping projects and visit.

Silent auction items include an antique tower clock, afghans, wall hangings and skin care products from Mary Kay Cosmetics. Projects vary from greeting cards, gift tags and packaging ideas to decorating scrapbook pages.

Raising support and awareness of groups like the Breast Cancer Support Group that has had difficulty getting fliers out to people due to a shortage of funds, is one of the goals of the event, said We Be Stampin' owner, Belinda Alaniz.

Aside from giving a helping hand to those in the community, sharing personal experiences with breast cancer is a focus of the evening. "What person has not been touched by breast cancer in one form or another?" Alaniz asked.

Last year, the event had 35 attendees and raised more than $1,200. Proceeds this year go to the Moses Lake Cancer Foundation and the Breast Cancer Support Group and are earmarked for breast cancer.

"The greatest thing about this event is that everything we do stays right here in Moses Lake," said Przybylski.
