| September 15, 2005 9:00 PM

Theadore L. "Ted" Giles, 68, of Othello, died Tuesday, at his home with his family at his side.

Ted was born on July 30, 1937, in Bridgeland, Utah to William Guy Giles and Zona L. Carrell Giles. He was raised on a dairy farm in Myton, Utah, where he awoke early every morning to milk the family cows, by hand.

In 1954, Ted moved with his family to Othello, where he graduated from Othello High School in 1955. Ted worked odd jobs in the area until 1957 when he traveled on his two-year mission to the Eastern States. When he returned he worked in construction on the canals and paving the streets of Othello, as well as farm work.

Ted met Sharon Roberts in Moses Lake at a missionary conference in 1961, they married in the Alberta Carston Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, on May 19, 1962.

Ted attended barber college in the Tri-Cities graduating in 1962. He barbered for 4 years, worked for George Walker Construction and with Adams County as a truck driver. He and Sharon moved to Spokane to be with Ted's extended family. They returned to Othello in 1975 when he opened Giles Vacuum Sales and Service, selling vacuums and appliances new and used, sometimes giving old repaired appliances to needy families.

He retired in 1998, and he went to work for his family as a chauffeur for his grandchildren. Ted's passion was his family. He will be remembered as a generous, kind person with a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit, always looking for people to help. He enjoyed people and truly never met a stranger. He was a member and high priest of the second ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Othello. The world is a better place because of him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Giles of the family home; four sons: Dean and wife Brenda Giles of Provo, Utah; Brent and wife Stefanie Giles, Brian and wife Amber Giles and Jason Giles all of Othello; two daughters, Molly Ann Fitting and Terry Sue Jordan, both of Othello; two brothers, William Giles of Spokane and Orson Giles of South Bend; a sister, Linda Sproul of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Stevens Funeral Chapel on Friday beginning at 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. A celebration of Ted's life will be held on Saturday at the Othello Stake center of the LDS church at 11:30 a.m. with interment to follow at Bess Hampton memorial Gardens.
