Ashley Walker leads the way for Lady Huskies

OTHELLO — Cashmere was no match for the Othello Huskies and Ashley Walker.

"She is the best player in the Basin," head coach Steve Parris said.

The Lady Huskies dispatched Cashmere in three straight games 25-9, 25-14, 25-16.

There was a moment in each game where it seemed Cashmere might keep pace with Othello and it was usually followed by either six straight points from Othello or a 12-2 run.

In game one, the Huskies had scoring stretches of three, four and eight consecutive points. It was rare when Cashmere could string together back-to-back points out of the serve.

Othello had crisp play and good communication on offense in the first game. It seemed almost flawless.

In the second game Othello went ahead 5-2 and did not look back for quite a while. Quickly, the scoring advantage ballooned to 21-9.

Cashmere mounted a minor charge to get the score to 22-14 but the threat did not last. Walker finished the game by scoring the final two points on kills.

With those kills it seemed the Lady Huskies could score at will.

Coach Parris decided to change things in his offense for the third game.

He played with two setters, Stacie Villarreal in the front row and Allison Walker in the back row, as opposed to just one in the first two games of the match.

In the first two games Parris played an offense called 5-1 and one called 6-2 in the third game.

The Lady Huskies suffered from a lack of communication in the third game which allowed Cashmere to stay close almost through out.

Everything was tied up at 16 points apiece when Walker began to serve and the team went on a 6-0 run to pull ahead of Cashmere for good. The final score of game three was 25-16.

Walker finished the game with nine kills and seven aces. Courtney Hamilton went five-for-five serving and had six digs for the Lady Huskies.

Villarreal had 11 assists and went 14-for-15 serving along with four aces.

Othello's next match is at Toppenish Thursday.
