Moses Lake swim starts with win
Team has injuries to key players
MOSES LAKE — The girls swim and dive team kicked off their season with a victory against Kennewick High School Saturday at Moses Lake High School, 145-37.
Head coach Tony St. Onge is excited about this season just as he is excited about each season for the girl's swim and dive team.
"We have been training harder than ever before this year," St. Onge said. "Our goal remains the same, to build good character and compete like a champion at every meet."
Leading the way for the Moses Lake girl's swim and dive team this year is Stephanie McFarland. She has the best chance of qualifying for state in 2005 according to St. Onge.
The team did have two other swimmers in the competition for state but injuries have taken precidence over competition for them.
First is Marielle McKean, who broke her wrist earlier this year and will compete with a cast. She is not expected to get out of the cast until late September.
Her sister McKenze McKean suffered a torn ACL in basketball and had surgery in the first week of the season.
If she is going to recover in time to compete this year it will not be until the end of the season.
The teams captains for the squad are McKenzie McKean and Angela Noteboom.
Seniors competing on the team this year are Cyndi Alwine, Erin Fenske, Ashley Gessell, McKenzie McKean, Lyndsey Moore, Angela Noteboom, Megan Price, Martha Reyes, Kassandra Turman.
The top incoming freshmen for this year are Carrie Corez and Hannah Grigg. Both swimmers have already made districts for 2005.
St. Onge will expect to finish in the middle of the league this year.
