Robert Lester Horst
Robert Lester Horst passed away in Longwood, Fla., on Oct. 12, 2005. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and two brothers, William and Jack, and his first wife, Helen. He leaves behind his second wife, Eunice of Longwood. His daughter and son-in-law JoAnne and John AIlport of Puyallup. Their children John and Lisa Ailort of Sandpoint, Idaho. James AIlport of Puyallup. His son and daughter-in-law George and Julie Horst of Moses Lake. Their children Andrew and Kelly Matson of Killeen, Texas. Ashley Matson and John Busherd of Moses Lake. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
Robert was born in Moline, Ill., to Henry and Blanche Horst on Sept. 13, 1921. He served in the United States Marine Corps as a fighter pilot and flew the F4U-4 Corsair in World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the U.N. Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, several Gold Stars and the Air Medal Purple Heart.
Robert married Helen Elizabeth Wahl on June 21, 1947. Together they ran their farm in Moses Lake until Helen passed away on Aug. 23, 1991. Later he married Eunice Sears and moved to Florida to enjoy his retirement. He enjoyed the ocean and the warm climate.
At the family's request, in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the American Cancer Society or the Lions Club, in which Robert was a strong supporter. There will be a private burial service planned later on in Chesaw.
