Warden defeats Columbia-Burbank at home

WARDEN — The Lady Cougars of Warden hosted the Lady Coyotes of Columbia-Burbank Tuesday. Warden came out swinging and was able to take the match in three games, winning 25-21, 25-13, 25-19.

"We played really well as a team," said head coach Jeff Kottong.

Warden began the first game with dominant serving from Ivory Kisler, who served for five unanswered service points before siding out.

Two rotations later, Casey Berg had a block to force a side out for Columbia-Burbank and give Warden service.

Mirelle Pixton then served four points, including one ace.

Warden continued to play solidly but allowed a late scoring run to add a little extra spark to their play.

Columbia-Burbank served five points, including one ace before Warden was able to earn a side out.

Ashton Stott took up serving duties and helped her team score four points to put the game at a nail-biting 23-19.

Columbia-Burbank scored two more points before Warden earned the win on a kill from Pixton that resulted in a side out.

The Lady Cougars came out strong in game two.

Marce Villegas helped her team out early, serving two aces.

Stott had three consecutive kills during a Warden scoring run and she had the last kill of the match, to win it for Warden, 25-13.

Warden continued to dominate Columbia-Burbank in the final game of the match.

The Lady Cougars had an early side out and traded side out points with Columbia-Burbank before settling in and playing volleyball.

Stott added another kill to her stats, she ended the match with seven, and helped seal the deal for Warden.

Mid-way through the third game, Warden was able to rally behind some touch calls that went their way and stretch their lead.

Pixton had a kill to give her team service once again and Stott served up two points and created a turning point for the Lady Cougars.

Villegas served a point to put the win in reach and Pixton served out the game for the match win, 25-19.

"Columbia-Burbank is a better team than played tonight, I think," Kottong said about the win. "But I'll take it how I can get it."

Pixton ended the night with nine kills. Stott was 10 of 10 serving with an ace in addition to her seven kills. Kisler was 11 of 11 serving and had 11 assists during the match. Berg had three blocks on the night.

Warden's next game is at home against Wahluke Thursday.
