Lady Chiefs lose battle with Lady Blue Devils
Moses Lake rallies hard, but unable to score
MOSES LAKE — The Lady Chiefs hosted Walla Walla at Lions Field Tuesday and were defeated 2-0.
"It was a good game," said coach Ricardo Char.
Moses Lake battled through the first half, holding Walla Walla scoreless.
About 10 minutes into the first half, Brin Bergeson was set up for an excellent shot at the goal but her shot was deflected by Walla Walla's keeper.
Katie Lamb had her first save of the night in the 14th minute of play and added a clear to the game a few minutes later.
"Katie Lamb played very well tonight," Char said.
Late in the second half, Gabe Madson had a run on the goal but was unable to find the back of the net.
Near the 25 minute mark of the first half, Moses Lake had a shot on goal that bounced off the corner of the far post.
Moses Lake's Karol Scott had the last shot for the Lady Chiefs in the first half. In the 32nd minute her shot went wide left of the goal.
"We hoped for a little more possession, you always do," said Char.
In the 52nd minute, Walla Walla closed in on the goal and slipped one past Lamb.
However, Walla Walla was whistled off-sides and no goal was awarded.
Moses Lake's Emily White answered the off-side from Walla Walla with a shot on goal that went wide left.
In the 58th minute, Walla Walla scored with the shot bouncing off the left post and into the goal.
Moses Lake began to play with a greater sense of urgency and in the 63rd minute Madson was defending her goal when she came down hard.
As Madson left the game, the Lady Chiefs rallied and charged down-field but were unable to capitalize on the drive through the center of the pitch.
Walla Walla executed two more shots on goal before the third shot went in during the 74th minute of the match.
Moses Lake's Vanessa Brischle set up a cross for Bergeson who headed the ball but the shot went wide right.
"Vanessa (Brischle) played well," Char said. "Brin (Bergeson) usually plays defense but she has a knack for wanting the ball."
Fredrick had the final shot for Moses Lake. The kick went right down the center and was saved by Walla Walla's keeper.
"It was a well fought match," said Char.
Moses Lake's next match will be at home Saturday against Davis.
