David A. Proffitt, 60, longtime Moses Lake resident and plant manager at Weyerhauser, passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005 at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6 at the Moses Lake Assembly of God Church, 431 E. Brown Street, with Virgil Ricks officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at Wenatchee Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel & Crematory, Moses Lake.

Dave was born on December 24, 1944 in Ashville, NC to Mildred (Williamson) Rolen and Ambers Proffitt. As an infant, he moved with his mother, step-father John Rolen and brother Jack to Tennessee where they lived until he was 12 years old. They moved to Cashmere where Dave graduated from high school in 1964. After graduation he worked for Joe Welty Ford in Wenatchee.

In July of 1965, Dave married Pamela Monesmith. That December he enlisted in the Army and received basic training in Fort Polk, La. then transferred to Maryland. After training, he served two years in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1968. He then returned to Wenatchee where he worked for Alcoa. In 1971, Dave and Pam moved to Kirkland and he went to work for Western Kraft in Bellevue. That August their first son was born, Steven Carter, who they lost at birth. One year later, David (Scott) was born and then in March of 1976 they had a daughter, Jennifer Ann.

Dave worked in Bellevue for eight years before transferring to the newly built Moses Lake plant in 1979. In 1989 he had his third child, Shalon Nicole, with his second wife, Melissa. Dave was a hard worker and gained a great deal of respect and admiration from his peers. He soon became plant manager and loved going to work every day. The company changed ownership over the years from Western Kraft, to Willamette, and finally becoming Weyerhauser. In all, Dave was with the company for 34 years.

Dave was more than a father to his children, he was their best friend. We will miss so many things; Sunday night pizza, boating and jet skiing in the summer, and just hanging out with him watching football and barbecuing. Big D was our rock, the man who held our family together, we all loved and looked up to him. We speak for everyone who knew him when we say we love you Big D and will miss you more than words can say.

Dave is survived by his mother, Mildred Rolen, and father John Rolen of Cashmere, his brother Jack Rolen and wife Joanne of East Wenatchee, his son Scott Proffitt and wife Amy of Moses Lake, his daughter Jennifer Gonzales and husband Alex of Moses Lake, his daughter Shalon Proffitt of Moses Lake, his grandchildren, Tayler, Abigail and Emilee Proffitt, Kyleigh Gamez, Alexander, and Andrew Gonzales, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Ambers Proffitt, son Steven Carter Proffitt, grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
