Police continue investigation, seek more information on pair of robbers

OTHELLO — The Othello Police Department has released photos from a robbery last week, when two armed men got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Employees at the Leprekon grocery store were reportedly robbed at gunpoint at approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at the store located on the 1100 block of E. Main Street. The suspects reportedly threatened the employees and family members of employees in the store. No shots were fired in the incident, and the two men fled the scene on foot.

The photo shows a Hispanic male, approximately 5-foot-8, wearing dark clothing and a ski mask, and brandishing a handgun.

A second suspect is also believed to be a Hispanic male, approximately 5-foot-4, and wearing similar clothing. Both men were armed with handguns.

The OPD said in a news release Monday that the area has experienced a recent increase in armed robberies, and has encouraged business to take precautions to limit their losses in such incidents. Officers would be willing to assist businesses regarding their security practices, the release stated.

The OPD suggested businesses limit their cash, install height markers on exit doors, remove visibility obstructions from doors and windows, and install camera systems. The OPD has also encouraged employees not to resist robbery attempts.

In recent robberies, the OPD said suspects seemed familiar with store operations, and encouraged the reporting of suspicious activity in Othello stores.

Sgt. John Pierre said the OPD is following leads, and asks that anyone with information on the robbery to call the OPD at (509) 488-3314.
