Chiefs win 'baker' games to defeat Kennewick
Lady Chiefs bowl well late
MOSES LAKE — The Lady Chiefs struggled early, falling in the first two games against Kennewick, but were able to come back for the win in the baker games.
"We needed to win both baker games by 21 pins or more to win the match," said coach Billy Brice.
During the fifth frame of the first game, Moses Lake and Kennewick swapped the lead score back and forth but as the game came to a close, Kennewick was able to pull ahead for the win 799-760.
Susan Krcma put up an impressive 189 game despite her team's loss and Dawne Drummond scored a 179.
Moses Lake's woes continued in the second game. The Lady Chiefs fell 793-789 to Kennewick.
Then it was on to the baker games. In a baker game, all team members bowl consecutively to contribute to a single game score, rather than receiving individual scores.
The Lady Chiefs came out bowling and won the first game 205-166.
"The unusual thing was that there was an open frame in the game. That almost never happens," said Brice.
With a win in the first baker game, Moses Lake found themselves in a position to win the match.
Moses Lake improved their score in the second baker game, winning 215-160.
"We had a four-bagger in that game," said Brice.
The two baker game wins gave Moses Lake the upper hand in total pins and the overall win.
The Lady Chiefs improved their season record to 3-1.
"The girls were up and down," said Brice. "But, like Chiefs, they never gave."
