Roy H. Elkins
Roy H. Elkins, who lived in Othello since 1968, passed away on November 13, 2005 at the Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane. He was born to Henry and Francis Elkins on August 23, 1931 in Mooresburg, Tenn.
On December 23, 1950, he married Fran Brooks and together they enjoyed 54 years of harmonious marriage.
Moving west in 1956 with his young family, he joined up with his brother Hugh in Ephrata and worked at the Eastham Chevrolet dealership. In 1958 he attended barber school in Spokane and in 1959 began his career as a barber. Roy touched many lives over his long career and never met anyone that he didn't care for. In 1993, he retired after 31 years and together with his wife set out to enjoy family and friends. He loved the game of golf and was an avid outdoorsman. When the Seattle Mariners were playing you always found him glued to the television regardless of their win/loss record. He was a faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church along with active involvement in the community.
Roy is survived by his beautiful wife Fran; three children, Doug (Jeanie), Debbie (Chris) and Teresa (Mike); along with six grandchildren, Josh, Travis, Lexie, Michael, Brooke and Ashley; and a great-grandchild, Victoria. His brother Hugh Elkins and sister Virginia Petty also survive him. He loved his family as much as they loved him and their close relationship was reflected by their togetherness on a daily basis.
His kindness for others knew no boundaries. He will be greatly missed by all that were fortunate enough to have known him.
A viewing will be held Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Chapel, 511 S. Seventh Ave., Othello. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the First Baptist Church of Othello. Interment will be at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens in Othello.
The family would ask that any donations be given to the building fund at the First Baptist Church in Othello.
