MOSES LAKE — The stage at Moses Lake High School had all the glitz and glamour of a Las Vegas show at Friday's Blades on Broadway Institute of Hair Design Hair Show.

For an hour and a half, beauty school students from the Moses Lake and Wenatchee Blades on Broadway Institute showed their talent to potential employers.

Students each had a model they created a look for. There were four judging categories including day, evening and night make-up transition, womens design, mens design, and Las Vegas style.

Fifteen-year-old Michael Mathews modeled the famous Abercrombie and Fitch look with a white button-down, collared shirt and worn jeans. Mathews decided to participate after being encouraged by his aunt who owns a beauty salon.

More exotic looks were also featured.

"I've seen some of the outfits, they're pretty crazy," said mother Dawnie Kelley, who came to see daughter Amber model for the show.

Model Alma Cornelio won first place for her Las Vegas show girl look, while beauty school student Tyler Bishop featured a look after the movie "Hair Spray" by placing a bird cage on top of his model's head as part of the hairdo he created.

"I was still talking her into it on the way here," Bishop said comically of getting model Brittney Ruiz to participate in the Hair Show.

Audience member Eddie Lewis came to see his girlfriend Ashley Rowan model for the show.

"I can tell she had fun with it," Lewis said.

Fun was one of the reasons the Blades on Broadway Institute of Hair Design decided to organize a Hair Show back in August.

This is a chance for students to display what they've learned in beauty school and to provide a fun event for the community, said Bruce Curtis, school director with Blades on Broadway Institute of Hair Design.

The following beauty school students won first place in the following categories: Grace Atkinson, mens design; Jessica Osegura, womens design; Destiny Tussey, Las Vegas; and Nicole Sanchez, night make-up transition.
