Remains found in trailer fire
Ignition still under investigation
ADAMS COUNTY — Authorities are still investigating an early Sunday morning incident where an unidentified person was found in the debris of a trailer fire.
Adams County Sheriff's deputies and Adams County Fire District No. 5 officials responded to the trailer fire on the 600 block of Hays Road at approximately 5:20 a.m. According to the ACSO, fire units were advised when they arrived on scene of a male subject living in the adjacent trailer who was missing. Human remains were later found in the fire debris, the ACSO said in a news release.
The cause or location of the fire's ignition was not immediately known Monday, when investigators were arriving to process and complete an examination of the burned trailer.
The incident occurred on property located five miles west of Othello, just north of Highway 26. Adams County Sheriff Doug Barger said Monday that residents on the property had been living in one trailer while making improvements to the trailer that was burned Sunday. Barger said the trailer was not being lived in on a full-time basis when the fire occurred.
An autopsy of the remains was scheduled for Tuesday in Grant County to determine the identity of the person found in the debris.
