Othello's team effort pays off

OTHELLO — Game one of the districts series was played in Othello Thursday with the Lady Huskies hosting the Lady Kodiaks of Cascade.

Othello defeated Cascade 7-1 in seven innings in a well played game.

The Lady Huskies were solid on the mound with Dalila Franco pitching ten strikeouts and walking one. The lone run the pitcher allowed was earned in the top of the third.

Donna Franco was all over the field Thursday. She sparked a scoring drive in the bottom of the first with a single. Franco, and teammate Jenna Rosenberg, were batted in by Delila Franco to give the Lady Huskies a two run lead.

Three batters later, Rachel Mohs stepped up to the plate and batted in Delila Franco to give Othello a 3-0 lead, a lead that would continue to grow.

The next score came from Cascade, in the top of the third, when Sheena Davenport singled to get on base. Her teammate, Kaileen Johnson, hit a triple to drive Davenport in for Cascade's only score on the day.

In the bottom of the third, Jenna Rosenberg was batted in on a grounder from Michelle Wheeler.

Othello would score their final runs in the bottom of the fourth, when Rocky Perez, courtesy runner for Misty Adams, was batted in by Hannah Mohs. Then Jenna Rosenberg came to the plate with three runners on and one out. She hit a line drive, giving Kristine Valdez, Donna Franco and Hannah Mohs time to cross home plate before she was tagged out at first.

After Othello's final scoring run in the fourth, the game was three innings of defense from both teams.

Donna Franco finished the day hitting 2 for 4, as did Jenna Rosenberg.

"We were able to take advantage of their mistakes," said coach Rudy Ochoa after the game.

Othello's next game will be played Saturday in Omak.
