More than 60 burglaries have been reported since February

EPHRATA — The Ephrata Police Department is continuing to investigate a rash of daytime residential burglaries, and has released a sketch of a possible suspect.

Ephrata Police Chief Joe Varick said his officers have responded to 61 burglaries since late February, the vast majority of homes are believed to have been burglarized during daylight hours. The EPD continues to investigate the crimes, and Varick said reports of the burglaries have increased awareness of Ephrata residents about the crimes.

"I think we're making a little progress in getting people to lock their doors and windows," Varick said.

A suspect in the case has been described to the EPD as white male age 18 to 21 with a dark or tanned complexion. The EPD believes the suspect to be approximately 5-foot-8 with short dark brown or black hair.

A description of the suspect was given to police after the person was confronted by a homeowner on the 200 block of D Street SW last week. The suspect was seen wearing a dark blue baseball cap, blue jeans, white shoes and a dark blue shirt with the words "undercover police" in yellow letters.

Anyone with information concerning the identity of the suspect is encouraged to call the Ephrata Police Department at (509) 754-2491. Other crimes can also be reported to MACC dispatch at (509) 762-1160.
